1.1 The Journal

The Journal of Oral Diagnosis, the official publication of the Brazilian Society of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology (SOBEP), established in 2016, operates under the registered ISSN number 2525-5711. As an open access online journal, it upholds a commitment to scholarly dissemination without imposing any publication fees on authors, fulfilling the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) definition of open access. Utilizing a continuous publication workflow, articles undergo peer review and become promptly accessible to the scientific community upon acceptance. Only original articles are acceptable for publication in the Journal of Oral Diagnosis.

1.2 Mission and scope

The Journal of Oral Diagnosis is dedicated to publishing original contributions in various article formats aimed at advancing the understanding of the pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical presentation, microscopic features, and molecular basis of diseases impacting the oral and maxillofacial region. Manuscripts exploring the pathological aspects of inflammatory, infectious, cystic, and neoplastic disorders, as well as the oral manifestations of systemic diseases, are welcome for submission to the journal. We encourage authors from all parts of the globe and across various specialties to contribute with their manuscripts to the Journal of Oral Diagnosis. 1.4 Open Access

The Journal of Oral Diagnosis adheres to an open access policy, with no fees associated with article production, publication, or readers’ access to manuscripts, which are accessible on the journal’s website. Readers are granted permission to freely read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles for any lawful purpose, without requiring prior authorization from the publisher or the author. The Journal of Oral Diagnosis fulfils the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) definition of open access.
Articles accepted for publication will be made available as Open Access and distributed under Creative Commons Attribution License terms (CC-BY), which allows for unrestricted utilization, dissemination, and reproduction of the content in any medium, as long as proper citation to the original work is provided.

1.5 Modus operandi Open science

The Journal of Oral Diagnosis adheres to the modus operandi Open Science recommended by SciELO, enhancing transparency of the editorial process and ensuring unrestricted access to its scientific content. Consequently, the journal aligns with all four dimensions of Open Science: 1. Articles are published under open access model, utilizing the CC-BY license, thereby empowering authors to retain copyright of their manuscripts; 2.  Holding a continuous publication workflow, the journal welcomes manuscripts previously deposited in preprints databases for evaluation; 3. Authors are encouraged to deposit their study data in repository databases, with this information featured in the final version of the article. 4. While typically employing a single-blinded peer-review process, the Journal of Oral Diagnosis offers an informed peer-review process option upon authors’ request.
